Pine siding on a Beaverton wall

The siding on this house is an older size that nobody sells off the shelf any more. Rather than force a modern board onto the wall and leave a seam that never lines up, we sized each pine board by hand to match the existing courses, so the new work reads as part of the house instead of a patch.

The new exterior door went in as part of the same job. The boards run tight to its casing and are fastened course by course, cut square where the new wood meets the old siding, so the door and the siding finish as one piece.

We left the pine bare on purpose. The owners have the whole house going in for paint right after us, so anything we put on now would only be sanded and covered again — bare wood gives the painters a clean, even surface to start from.
