Fir needles and nine months of rain are hard on homes here. We clean gutters across Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA — by hand, with every downspout flushed — before the rain finds the clog. If you want more done while we're there, roof moss treatment (never pressure on shingles) and pressure washing for driveways, decks, and fences are optional add-ons.

Common Problems We Solve
Gutters overflow in the first fall storm, sheeting water down the siding.
Needles and roof grit compact into a mat that water can't pass. We scoop the runs clean by hand, flush each downspout until it runs clear, and check that water actually moves toward the downspouts. Overflow that continues after a cleaning usually means slope or hanger problems — we'll show you what we find.
Roof moss is lifting shingle edges on the north slope.
We apply moss killer or install zinc strips and let the weather do the removal — dead moss dries and sheds over the following months. We never pressure wash composition shingles; it strips the granules the roof depends on. If moss has already damaged shingles, we'll tell you it's a roofer's job.
The driveway has a green film that turns slick when it rains.
Algae, not dirt. We run a surface cleaner for even coverage without wand stripes, detail the edges, and rinse the surface clean when we're done. An optional post-wash treatment slows the regrowth on shaded concrete.
Downspouts drain into underground pipes that are clogged and backing up.
We flush from the top and clear the connection at grade where the blockage allows. Buried lines packed with years of needles sometimes need more than a flush — if the pipe itself is damaged or collapsed, we'll say so and point you to the right drainage contractor instead of guessing.

Walk-around & scope
We count stories, measure the gutter runs, and check roof pitch and material. You get a clear price for the cleaning and any add-ons — moss treatment, guards, pressure washing — before work starts.
Clean & flush
Gutters are cleaned by hand and the debris bagged, not blown into the yard. Every downspout gets flushed with water until it runs clear, including checks at the bottom where clogs hide.
Treat & wash (if booked)
If moss treatment is on the scope, it goes on where pitch and material allow — zinc strips or moss killer, never pressure. If you booked pressure washing, flatwork, decks, and fences get washed at pressure matched to the surface.
Rinse, review & haul away
We rinse down the work areas, walk the job with you, and share photos of the cleared gutters. Bagged gutter debris goes with us; yard-wide leaf haul-away rides along as the add-on if you booked it.

What Affects the Price
- Stories and height
- Single-story work goes fast from a ladder. Two-story homes take taller ladders, more repositioning, and more time. We don't take roofs over two stories.
- Roof pitch
- A walkable pitch lets us work from the roof surface. Steeper pitches mean everything happens from ladders at the edge, which is slower. Over 8/12 we decline.
- Linear feet of gutter
- Total run length and the number of downspouts set the base price. Gutter guards are priced per foot on top of a cleaned run.
- Debris load
- A gutter maintained twice a year scoops out quickly. A run skipped for a few seasons holds compacted needle mats — sometimes with seedlings growing in them — and takes real digging.
- Add-ons and bundling
- Moss treatment, guards, pressure washing, and leaf haul-away each add to the ticket, but bundling them into one visit costs less than booking separate trips.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Portland?
Twice a year is typical here, because fir needles drop year-round, not just in autumn. A late-fall cleaning after leaf drop and a spring cleaning after winter storms cover most homes. Houses directly under big firs may need an extra check between those visits.
Do you walk on the roof?
Only where pitch and material make it safe — walkable composition roofs, dry conditions. Steeper or fragile roofs get worked from ladders at the edge. We don't take roofs over two stories or steeper than 8/12, and we never pressure wash shingles.
Is moss treatment safe for plants and pets?
We apply products exactly as labeled, pre-wet or cover plantings under the roofline, and rinse hard surfaces where runoff lands. Precautions depend on the product used — we follow its label directions for keeping pets and people off treated areas and tell you on site what applies to your yard. Zinc strips involve no spray at all; if that matters for your yard, ask about them at the walk-around.
Can you pressure wash a wood deck without damaging it?
Yes — low pressure, a wide fan tip, and working with the grain, with a deck cleaner doing most of the work. High pressure is what gouges and splinters decking, so we don't use it on wood. The grain may feel slightly raised until the boards dry.
Are gutter guards worth it with fir needles?
They help; they don't end maintenance. Fir needles are the hardest test for any guard — fine mesh sheds most of them, but needles still collect on top and some work through. Expect fewer cleanings, not zero, and plan on periodic checks. If your tree cover makes guards a poor value, we'll say so.
Do you haul the leaves away?
Yes, as an add-on. Bagging and removing what comes out of the gutters is part of every cleaning. Yard-wide leaf cleanup and haul-away is priced separately by volume and can be booked with a fall gutter cleaning.
How is gutter cleaning priced — by story or by linear foot?
Most single-story homes run $179–249 with us; two-story homes run $249–399. The walk-around sets the exact number — run length, downspouts, and how long the gutters have gone between cleanings — before any work starts.
What happens if I don't clean my gutters?
Water finds another way down. Clogged gutters overflow onto siding, pool against the foundation, and rot the fascia boards behind the runs. Standing debris also invites carpenter ants and even sprouts seedlings in compacted needle mats. In Portland and Vancouver the damage compounds fast — nine months of rain means a fall clog works on your house all winter.
