Common Problems We Solve
The app pings all night with false motion alerts.
Usually the camera is watching the street, a flag, or a branch. We set motion zones so the camera ignores passing traffic, tune sensitivity, and sometimes re-aim or move the camera a few feet — placement fixes what settings cannot.
Wi-Fi cameras keep dropping offline.
We measure the actual signal at the camera's mounting spot, not at the router. The fix is one of three: move or add an access point, relocate the camera, or run a wire — and for a camera that matters, the wire is usually the right call.
Night footage is a white blur of glare.
Infrared bouncing off a nearby eave, wall, or spiderweb washes out the image. We remount the camera clear of reflective surfaces, adjust the angle, and check the night view.
The video doorbell works in the app but the indoor chime never rings.
Chime compatibility and the little power kit most brands require are the usual culprits. We wire the doorbell into the existing low-voltage chime circuit correctly; if the transformer itself is dead or undersized, replacing it is line-voltage work we refer to a licensed electrician.
How It Works
Plan the coverage
We walk the property and place cameras where they earn their keep — entry doors, driveway, side gate — at heights and angles that capture faces rather than the tops of heads. We also aim away from neighbors' windows and yards; good coverage does not require watching anyone else's property.
Mount and wire
Wired cameras get PoE runs pulled through the attic or crawlspace where possible, with drip loops and sealed penetrations at every exterior entry. Wireless cameras get mounted where the signal check says they will stay connected, under eave cover when the spot allows it.
Set up recording
NVR or DVR configured for local recording, or cloud storage set up on the maker's service — whichever your system uses. Either way, we confirm footage is actually being saved.
App setup and handoff
Every camera added to your phone, motion zones and notifications tuned, remote viewing tested off your home network, and a short walkthrough so you can pull up a clip yourself.
What's Not Included
- New doorbell transformers or any line-voltage wiring — connecting to existing low-voltage chime wiring is our work; anything at the panel or a junction box goes to a licensed electrician.
- Monitored alarm systems and central-station contracts — we install cameras and doorbells, not alarm monitoring services.
- Underground trenching to detached garages or outbuildings — we can quote surface conduit, but excavation is outside this service.
- Repairs to defective camera hardware — warranty replacements go through the manufacturer.
What Affects the Price
- Camera count
- Each additional camera adds mounting, wiring or signal checks, and app setup time; four well-placed cameras often beat eight scattered ones.
- Wired vs. wireless
- Battery and Wi-Fi cameras install quickly; PoE cameras cost more up front because each one gets a dedicated cable run.
- Cable path
- An open attic makes runs fast; tight crawlspaces, finished ceilings, and deep soffits slow the same run down considerably.
- Mounting surface
- Wood and vinyl siding are straightforward; brick, stucco, and concrete need masonry drilling and anchors, which takes longer per camera.
Frequently Asked Questions
Wired or wireless — which holds up better?
Wired PoE, without much contest. One cable carries power and data, there are no batteries to swap in the rain, and the connection does not depend on Wi-Fi reaching a far corner. Wireless earns its place for renters and detached spots — but for a system you expect to still be recording in five years, wire the cameras that matter.
Do the cameras need internet to work?
An NVR system records locally and keeps recording if your internet goes down — internet is only needed for remote viewing. Cloud-based Wi-Fi cameras are the opposite: no internet, no recording. That difference is worth settling before buying hardware.
Can you install cameras I already bought?
Yes — supply-your-own is common, and we can often reuse existing cameras or wiring from a previous system. We check compatibility with your recorder and app before mounting anything.
How are recordings stored?
Three ways: locally on an NVR or DVR hard drive, on a subscription cloud service, or on an SD card in the camera. Local storage has no monthly fee and keeps footage in your house; cloud survives a stolen recorder but costs monthly; SD cards are the budget option with the least protection. We set up whichever fits and show you how to pull footage.
Will outdoor cameras survive the rain here?
Outdoor-rated cameras handle Northwest rain fine when installed for it — under eave cover where possible, cables entering from below with drip loops, every penetration sealed. What fails is not usually the camera; it is water following a badly routed cable into a connector.
